Oxford Library Renovation and Addition
The existing 40 year old Hoke O'Kelley Library building at the Oxford College campus is planned to undergo a comprehensive renovation to the existing building and a new addition to properly support the needs of the Oxford campus. This project will include the renovation of the existing 19,181 square feet as well as an approximately 8,000 square foot addition. Renovations will include building envelope upgrades as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades. The building program includes an expansion of the academic commons, additional high density shelving, new group study areas, space for reception, exhibit and teaching spaces, and adequate library support space. The building expansion on the front of the existing library will also serve to activate the west end of the quad and an interior atrium will serve to visually connect the upper and lower floors to provide a dynamic and exciting space unique to the Oxford College campus.
The Academic Commons will be located in this two-story space, placing the more active functions toward the campus side of the building. Quieter spaces such as group study rooms will be located toward the west side of the existing building, taking advantage of views to the forested green space beyond. The interior will be designed to appeal to students and faculty with a variety of comfortable seating areas for both individual study and group collaboration. The collection space will be reorganized to maximize available space and new classrooms and seminar rooms will provide much needed state of the art teaching space. The project is currently in design by Collins Cooper Carusi. Brasfield and Gorrie General Contractors have been selected as the Construction Manger during the construction phase.
